Synopse :

To reduce the cost and difficulties of lower limb prosthetic manufacturing, Amparo GmbH has developed a new socket (the part of the prosthetics that connects with the person’s residual limb) that is made of thermoplastic material which can be molded directly on the person’s limb. The Amparo Confidence Socket offers many advantages compared to traditional prosthetic manufacturing techniques as it is easier and faster to fit on the person, does not require the use of complex machinery and Africa’s First Innovation Ecosystem dedicated to Assistive Technology launched In Nairobi, Kenya GDI Hub and Kenyan partners will launch in Nairobi, Kenya Africa’s First Innovation Ecosystem dedicated to supporting over 50 start-ups to develop new Assistive Technology products and services. 10th of June 2019.
Two businesses–Motivation and Amparo– have already brought their AT innovations to this ecosystem, to be joined by many African innovators. This programme is part of the £20m AT2030 programme, funding by UKAID which aims to reach over 3 million people, through testing new approaches to get assistive technology to those who need it around the world – at present up to 900m people – and backing ‘what works’.
